Well, the pre-Christmas rush was absolutely manic this year! The phones were ringing off the hook along with emails coming through at all times of the day or night, with people desperate to have their chimneys swept in time for Christmas –we worked to the full to try and fit everyone in. Driving around from Paignton to Dawlish, Ashburton to Chudleigh and Newton Abbot to Chagford , sweeping chimneys in some amazing homes!
January is also a fairly busy month, of course it starts with all those whose chimneys couldn’t be fitted in before Christmas, but also those who are prompted by the cold weather of last week as well as the high cost of gas and electricity to start using those open fires and stoves.
The one question all chimney sweeps get asked time and time again is ‘how often should I get my chimney swept?’. The quick answer to this is at least once a year. Most insurance companies stipulate this as a condition of paying out in the case of a chimney fire, and this would most definitely apply to lined stoves.
