Crews from Bovey Tracey and Newton Abbot were alerted to a domestic fire this afternoon in Lustleigh. Due to working smoke alarms, the occupants were able to evacuate before the fire took hold. A BA crew were committed into the property in an attempt to extinguish the blaze. As the fire was well developed, it was decided to increase personnel and further appliances from Torquay and Chagford were mobilised as well as the Command Unit from Totnes. Crews were able to extinguish the fire using multiple BA teams, hose reel jets and 45mm jets. We worked alongside colleagues from various stations and utilised thermal imaging cameras and other small tools to ensure the fire had not spread elsewhere. A crew from Bovey returned later this evening to carry our further safety checks.

The fire is believed to have started from a wood burner that had ignited combustible materials nearby.
Take this opportunity now to make sure any areas around fire places and wood burners are clear of anything that might fuel a fire and test your smoke alarms.
